Now I just can't wait till Christmas.

A few months ago I was talking to my wife about stuff and she said that we would have to start thinking about what we would like for Christmas. I said "well the only thing that I would really like would be a new pair of limbs" and told her that as I was pretty much at the edge of my range at 80 yards with my current ones that a new pair with a bit more weight would be a good move. I had been looking at the Uuhka  EX1s, my current limbs (which I have been more than happy with) are a pair of 34lb medium Kaya Tomcat Carbons (labeled as K3 since 2012). As I have said I am right at the bottom of my sight with it pulled all the way in at 80 yards and in a strong head wind I have to aim a little bit high on the gold. I am holding about 38lbs with the limbs all the way in and a 29" draw, so I thought I would go for the 40lb EX1s and wind the limbs all the way out so I think I will start off at about 40lbs on my fingers. Then I saw that Uuhka would be a Telford for the European Archery Festival in January so decided to wait until then and go have a look at them there.......and then ordered a pair without even trying them out (like I always do).

The on Thursday last week they arrived and guess what? My darling wife has taken them away and said I will get them back on Christmas day! grrrrrrrrrrr........

  1. LOL!
Uukha limbs are selling like hot cakes from my local shop/range: interestingly the proprietor is not sure whether they may be a little "soft" for the Revolution? Probably why he then sold me some wood/carbon limbs by Sebastien Flute!! I am happy with them though, as I'm sure you will be with the EX1s. A friend shoots fantastically well with them on his Horizon and they seem very quick, which goes some way to contradict the "soft" thing?

Am persisting with the still hateful clicker, but have you found movement in the riser handle? I have tightened mine twice, but wonder if the wood wears or compresses, so have padded it on the inside with some plastic from a simple arrow rest (stick on type). Bingo, all sorted.

    (Longbow is bonkers!!)

  2. Soft limbs on a soft riser to me sound ideal...

Yes my handle dose have a little bit of movement, it is something quite a few users have mentioned and I really should put something on the blog about it. I keep meaning to pad mine a bit but haven't got round to it maybe I'll get it done this weekend.
As long as the clicker is improving your shooting (ignore my jibes) keep with it and your consistency should improve.
All long bows are bonkers, in what other sport do people insist and using two hundred year old tech when things have moved on so far. But I thought you just got the long bow to look at, didn't you say it was too nice to shoot?

  3. LOL All so true re the longbow!! What really makes me larf (diverting from the beloved Revolution a minute!) is that a chat site talks for hours about consistent techniques at the same time as decrying nock marks et al.....I just use the scatter gun approach when I shoot it!!
I find the Spigarelli lovely to look at too, especially with pearlescent white limbs, but like aircraft? its difficult to make an ugly bow...perhaps excepting compounds!!!
Re the clicker thing...I will persist, but at the moment, things have levelled off several levels below where I would be happy; but as ever, I don't shoot enough by far. I'm shooting a winter indoor league at the moment, so that may help?

  4. Not long now to the EX1s.......I, for one will be very interested in how you get on with them and your findings: I want to hear of at least 30 doz arrows at 30 x on Christmas Day!!
My form, not that I have any is struggling again with the clicker...I shoot in our local, (East Anglia) league indoors called Andy Harris League, involving 3 doz arrows at only 15 metres or thereabouts (40 cm face?). Well, I'm trying.... Hoping or even expecting around 320/360, I shot 305 then 304. Absolute poop. With this sort of thing, you can't afford to put any out of the 9 ring; start putting an arrow in a 5 or 6...well you've killed it. On the last attempt, my first 2 doz. were far to inconsistent...it wasn't til the last doz that consistent 9 and 10 were being popped in.
I'm not having the courage of my convictions to draw through the clicker, and when I do...it's too soon. Otherwise I'm hovering about for seemingly days before that straining arrow is sent to he netherworld of the target!!. Occasionally, to bloody occasionally...it goes just right. Way too occasionally..........

Anyway, if no one speaks to whenever, all who visit here, have a lovely Christmas time as you choose. And lets hear about tthose EX1s!!!!

    1. Yes not long to go, I think I can see smoke coming off the wrapping where I keep staring at them. Of course I will report back on how they shoot but expect about eight weeks of grumbling until I get used to them.
It will come with the clicker, I used to find that when I shot a round my groups didn't really start to tighten up until after the first dozen or so, but now I am getting there right from the start (even my sighters), but of course that will change when I start with the EX1s. The more you shoot the quicker you will get back in the groove each time, until you suddenly realise that you are there with the first release. It is back to that balance of 100% effort without trying too hard (?), every arrow must have your full attention you cannot be thinking about the last one, the next one or your final score, just the arrow on your bow and the gold. But you can't over think it either, that way lies madness and target panic. You can try going through your shot cycle in your head (if you don't have one then now is a good time to learn it), bow hand, bow arm, draw, anchor, settle, release....or what ever you have and just focus on each act. The more you do it the more instinctive it will become.

    2. Oh and you have a great Christmas as well, I hope Santa brings you something nice. Now that I have the EX1s sorted out I might have to buy something else at Telford (It's my birthday on the 5th of Jan) and I have been thinking about those magnetic buttons ( can't think of the maker atm), maybe they will be there hmm.................t

    1. Ho! Ho! Ho!....but who did he do it to?

Just a lil' thing in case you don't know, on archery interchange I am Hawkmoon......but don't tell anyone it's a secret.....what do you mean I just told the whole world?.......OMG!

    2. Who did he do it to? Me, and my archery I think, because guess what: I shot a PB Bray today without the clicker, and a few points better again, afterwards. I did then get some coaching on my release which will help towards clicker usage for when we get outdoors on longer distance, but indoors, I'm afraid its a no no with the clicker...again!
Then had some fun with the stick too!
(I am who I am on AI., but I guess you knew that!)

    3. I think you need to make the decision to use the clicker or not and stick to it, you can't use it for long distance and not for short that will just drive you mad. It probably comes down to whether your want to shoot right to the limit of what you are capable of, with the clicker once you get used to it you will be able to get that extra 5-10% on your scores. I am really not into competitions and shoot just for my enjoyment (except for the summer league and I will find someone to take over as captain soon) so no clicker is not a big handicap but if I was going for the silver wear I would need to use one.

  6. Very true....
I neither, do many competitions, club shoots maybe, local leagues too but that's it. But I do shoot against myself, and I need to get as good as I can, and then a bit more....., so yes I will persevere: I must.
I have been involved in many clicker posts on AI, with a lot of constructive feedback from "geoffretired". So I won't bore everyone on here any more, save to say, that things are inching forwards, improving that is, but I still don't like it!.......Enough!.I want to hear about others Revolutions (the bow that is!)
The only other Revolution I've seen appeared on the range today, with someone that used to have one, and has now bought another to replace his Fibrebow. Magic..

And I want to hear about your EX!s soon!! Happy Christmas!!
