A strange week

Ok I have been very remiss keeping the blog going and am going to try and do better.

Last week was a bit of a strange one for me, on the thursday I shot a personal best on an Albion of 715 and then on the Sunday I shot just about my worst score this year at a LEAGUE MATCH! I just could not settle and just did not feel comfortable (if that is the right word) in my form). The on wednesday this week I was shooting a my club and happened to look at my bow and noticed that I had negative tiller set on the bow (the bottom limb was wound in further than the top one), now most bow are recommended by the makers to be set with positive tiller and with the Revo' they recommend starting with a neutral tiller. The difference is normally just a  millimeter or two between the top and bottom limbs, my bottom limb was all the way in and the top one was about 5 mm out (could be why it felt weird). But the last time I had the bow apart was back at the beginning of the year.  So I put it back to neutral and wow back to a sweet quiet bow, I had not realised how unbalanced it felt until I put it right.
The other thing I wanted to mention was long rods and side bars, do any other target shooters ever shoot without them, because if you don't you should try it. Start at a short distance and work you way out, I average about 80 pts/dozen arrows at 80 yards with a long rod and 75 pts without. Not a big difference when when not in a competition but boy does the Revo' feel nice without the long rod, remember it was designed to be shot with no extra stabilization and if tuned should not need any damping. So go on give it a try and then please give some feed back on how you thought it felt....oh and check your tiller and even if you are set to positive try it with neutral and again let us know how you found it.

  1. Hi, good to see you back but sorry the match didn't go too well.
I haven't shot much of late, but a couple of weeks ago I shot at the club, a Bray I think, but was so out of sorts, I packed up 1/2 way thru'.
Today I had the opportunity for a couple of hours outdoors on a nearish range. The target was 60 yards, yet again a distance I had not to date shot at: but after a couple of sighters (6) I had a jolly good time always putting several of the flight in the 9 or 10. For me...happy days, as I don't shoot anything like enough. It was lovely to watch the buzzards and butterflies too; gorgeously hot for a change!
However, your post set me thinking, as I have NEVER checked the tiller since purchase and set up?????
I will too, have a crack at shooting without the stabiliser rod next time. I don't use lateral rods anyway.........

    1. Laurie, sorry I deleted your last comment by accident when I ment to publish it, it is up to you if you want to resubmit it I will publish it, it was the one about getting the Uuhka limbs but that they might not suit the Revo.

  2. Ha ha...it really is of no consequence: I was referring to your wish to get some excellent Uuhka limbs, and that I was interested in these for my Revolution when I bought it, but Perris thought that as the riser is so smooth (soft?) in its delivery, a slightly snappier (????) limb may work better. All very subjective maybe, but on his advice I bought some Carbon/Wood composites from Sebastien Flute - they were cheaper to boot - and not only do they look good in pearlescent white, but they seem to shoot well, according to those that know. One who shot with the Uuhkas (on another riser) commented very favourably. Maybe to flatter me, but added that he found them fast with no evidence of stacking. Suits me, sir!
(That doesn't mean that I still don't fancy some Uuhkas though...perhaps on a Carbon riser???!!)
(last night 540 on a Bray 2...best of the night. ho ho.. I did shoot a really stooopid end of 3, so should have been a good 10 higher...hmmm)

  3. I know it was, I just hate deleting a post when someone has gone to the trouble to write it. I was looking at the Uuhkas to give me a bit more speed and so distance without going up in weight too much. I am hoping that a pair of 38lb ones will get me to 100 yards,at 80 yards I am just about at my maximum range with my 34lb Kaya Tomcat carbons (now i think they call them K3s) but the weight feels really nice. So I was going take my Tomcats with to Telford and see if I can compare them to the EX1s. I have the go ahead from the finance dept. for my xmas prezzie (and birthday which is a few days later) so it is just a case of if I can wait till the 24th of Jan before I take the leap.

    1. I'm surprised your Tomcats won't get you to 100x, but then I have not shot that distance, but know of one or do that have with a similar weight....but new toys are always exiting, and the opportunity to compare has to be taken; I look forward to your impressions.

Again, not be familiar with the minutiae(?)I assume your arrows.....no, of course they will be....!

    2. Well.......I don't use a platform tab which tends to lower your anchor point and so push the arrow up a bit more so that loses me some distance. As to my arrows they are ACGs which are a bit on the heavy side but I like their consistency and they tend to be a bit more tolerant of the wind. The other supposed nice thing with the Uuhkas is that they are very stiff and resist twisting and sideways motion which should improve the horizontal spread and also as I told my wife they will improve my form and make me shoot like a God.

  4. All so true! can't argue with any of that!!!

  5. Today I shot for the first time at 80 metres...or was it 80 yards?

Absolutely loved it...had some compliments paid as a noooby...nice people do archery...either that or I'm paying them plenty!

My Revolution will certainly do 100...but I'm not sure we have the space...that would be fabulous.
Getting back to your points, I can see that not using a platform tab will change your anchor point, and yes the Uuhkas are supposed to be very stable...you know you're going to get them!!!

  6. Nice to hear that you are getting out to 80 (somethings), did you shoot a round or was it just practice?

I got passed a miles stone two weeks ago.......I got my first class classification. So I am never going to shoot again and just leave it on a high..............yeah that's gonna happen with those EX-1s taunting me and invading my dreams. Yes I am going to get them but I think this time I will for the first time try them out first. I have got lucky so far and all my kit works but throwing that kind of money at a pair of limbs I have not tried would be very silly.

  7. 80x......loved it.

Then went and shot indoors at 18 metres and shot so very badly, I packed up!! Oh well....

Congratulations on your 1st class though !!!

  8. Decided it is time to have another bash at using a clicker. As you'll know the one supplied with this bow is a flat plate against another "striker" plate on the front of the riser.
Last time I tried ...and tried...and persisted...for a while...with a clicker, I hated it for all the usual reasons, anticipating it, holding the draw to long, etc., etc.
Anyway, today, after 1/2 hr of playing about with draw length settings; dare I say it, it seemed to be working, and groupings were all 9 or 10s. Happy Days!!
Time will tell, but for now, it will continue to be used.....

  9. Are you using a clicker? Any thoughts?
